SKainuiG asks on February 4, 2004, 10:26am:

Peebrain,

What inspired you or why did you make this website? I mean there are a lot of other psions out there that don't care if you believe in psi or not.

Thanks

Peebrain replies on February 6, 2004, 1:03pm:

When I first started, I wanted to find a website like PsiPog to help me figure things out. I used to think to myself "someone should make a site without all that religion, and make it more scientific, that normal people can understand and learn how to do things..."... etc...

Eventually I came across Active Psy, and thought it was great. It presented the material in an easy to understand manor, without any emphasis on religion, and it sounded like it was based on personal experience. I liked the teaching philosophy... Then one day, a friend emailed me about this site he was going to make, where people post articles online about Psi. He asked me to write an article on telekinesis for him, so I did. It was pretty cool... After a while he said he wasn't going to be able to make the site he was hoping to make, so he gave up on the project. At the time, I had already made a few websites (I'm a computer nerd Smile), and already had one dedicated to how to make a psi ball. So, I took my psi ball website down, took my unpublished telekinesis article, and asked around for people to help to start making my own site. Rainsong started helping right away, and I put the site up...

I guess what originally inspired wasn't that I wanted other people to believe... I really don't care if other people believe (as you said). I am more interested in making a type of website that I would personally like to visit. I've held a lot of different opinions concerning psi at different points in my life, and I want to make a site that would be useful to those points of view, because I understand where people who think that way are coming from (since I once thought that way).

Long answer..? heh. I guess it's a build up of a lot of things...

Samurai asks on January 7, 2004, 11:28am:

I can not get the chat thing to work. when i click on the file it opens a wondow that tells me to pick a program to open it with. i try internet explorer and nothing happens, and the other programs on hte list are like paint and media player. is there something else i need?

Peebrain replies on February 2, 2004, 1:16pm:

Yes, download WinZip from www.download.com. You need to unzip the program to a new folder, then run the program from that folder. Look online for WinZip tutorials - I'm sure you can find something.

AKA_Nothing asks on January 22, 2004, 11:07am:

Peebrain replies on February 2, 2004, 1:16pm:

You can change your "timezone" preference in the option area. Go to http://www.psipog.net/options.php while logged in. There should be a timezone field... just select your current time. Then when you go to the calendar, it should display it in your selected time. PsiPog, internally, uses U.S. Eastern Time -5. To get the official PsiPog time, check http://www.psipog.net/est.php and be sure to hit refresh.

mel191086 asks on January 24, 2004, 11:20am:

Ok not much to do with PSI really except that I was going to help translate some of the sites into spanish out of random boredom and then realised that I don't know what psi is in spanish? Can anyone help?

Rainsong replies on January 24, 2004, 5:52pm:

"Psi" is a Greek letter (that trident shape in the top left of the page). It seems to be spelled much the same way in most Western European languages, and so is probably still "psi" in Spanish.

psilogist asks on January 18, 2004, 7:24am:

Let's say I've asked something in the Q&A a month ago and you didn't answer, can I ask again?

Rainsong replies on January 18, 2004, 6:35pm:

Sure, why not? I double-checked with Peebrain, just to be sure: month is a fair time period to re-try. By contrast, repeating the same question after a day or two is just annoying. We don't necessarily have the time to answer immediately.

Tefnakt asks on December 12, 2003, 6:18pm:

Can seminars be on Saturdays, or even Fridays? It's annoying for us in Europe to be at a seminar that's at 09:00 PM EST or so (you know, for example that time in Spain would be 02:00 AM, and on the next day we've got to work)

Rainsong replies on January 14, 2004, 1:20am:

It's almost impossible to schedule an online seminar at a time that is convenient for everybody in an international community such as PsiPog is. Therefore, it makes sense for the seminar to be taught at times convenient, or at least possible, for the one who is presenting. And, if the instructor is American, chances are that a time early enough to be workable for the Europeans would have him/her still at work or at school. And some folks don't have the weekends as an option, either. However, your request is noted.

The_Seven_Mystics asks on January 3, 2004, 11:00pm:

Will Chat v4.0 be Mac and Unix compatible? I have been waiting and waiting to be in the chat, but I cannot...

Peebrain replies on January 7, 2004, 1:25am:

Get an emulator, because I won't be coding a client for Mac or Unix anytime soon Smile.

Alias_Neo asks on January 4, 2004, 1:48am:

I like the thing where members can send e-mails to each other. How are you doing that? I have a website and would like to provide that for my members. Thank you.

Peebrain replies on January 7, 2004, 1:24am:

It is a PHP script with a MySQL backend. It's somewhat basic... the MySQL table is like "from user", "to user", "subject", "mesasge". Then it's just a matter of inserting the data, displaying the data, and deleting the data Smile. I think the actual script I wrote is only 350 lines. Not bad, if you already know PHP, MySQL, and HTML.

Creature asks on December 22, 2003, 1:57pm:

hey, do any of you guys know when the new chat will be out ? like a 4.0 ? thanks

Peebrain replies on December 22, 2003, 10:29pm:

I have started working on 4.0, and it is coming very slowly. When it's done, it should be MUCH more stable, but it'll take a long time. I haven't estimated a time when it'll be done, I'm so far away from finishing it, it's hard to tell. Maybe in a few months (doubt it Smile), maybe during summer, maybe later than that. Hard to tell at this point.

theAlias asks on December 13, 2003, 5:25pm:

What do the scores under the articles and the questions in Q&A mean? Which is the best score, 1 or 4?

Peebrain replies on December 20, 2003, 4:18pm:

"Score" means how many times it found the text in the article/Q&A thing. So like, if you search for "dog":

Hi, this is my dog, spot.

That gets a score of 1, because it has 1 dog in it.

Who is your dog? Is that your dog?

That gets a score of 2, because it has 2 "dog"s in it. So, higher score generally means "better".
