SKainuiG asks on December 16, 2003, 6:24pm:

How do you make the small smilies that are used throughout the site appear on a question? For example, if I wanted to put a smilie at the end of this sentence, will this do it: :)

Peebrain replies on December 20, 2003, 4:16pm:

: - ) = Smile
: - ( = Smile
: - D = Smile
; - ) = Smile
: - | = :-|
: - d = :-d
: - P or : - p = Smile
: - O or : - o = :-O
: - / or : - \ = :-/
8 - ) or B - ) = 8-)

Remove the spaces on the left side. Basically, you were just forgetting the "nose" Smile.

marlereric asks on December 1, 2003, 9:21pm:

I can't download the "chat" on my PC. It says to "Open the Folder With" ---something I have no clue what to do.

Peebrain replies on December 12, 2003, 4:41am:

The chat program is compressed into a ZIP file. Get WinZip to unzip it, then run the program. http://www.download.com

michael_1 asks on December 7, 2003, 9:42am:

why cant i view any vidieo in the media section

Peebrain replies on December 12, 2003, 4:09am:

The videos are encoded using the Intel Indeo 5.0 (or is it 5.1?) codec. It's a popular codec that comes with Windows Media Player... make sure you have the latest version and try again http://www.microsoft.com

OneOfTwo asks on November 17, 2003, 2:57pm:

I just surfed by and what do I see? Even more Articles gone... I looked forward to new Articles, not loosing any more old ones. From now on I think I'll download every single Article on this site before it again vanishes... Anyway, even if I only read one of the "Seminars and Classes" and don't remember if there were some that might interest me sometime, I think it's especially unfair to take those away. I mean, they are chat logs, so they are not exactly property of their author, are they? I CAN understand (to a certain extent, though I don't approve it) if the authors don't want their articles on the site any more. But I think at least the Chat Logs should remain on the site...

Guess that's more critics than a question, but I see no other other way to tell you my opinion...

Peebrain replies on November 17, 2003, 5:56pm:

I agree. I am not happy either... but what can I do? The author wants the material off the site. That is their decision, not mine. I think backing up articles is a good idea, and I suggest you do so. The way I do it is click on the "Printable" version of it (the link is on the bottom of every article), and then doing a File->Save As (in Internet Explorer). I'm sorry, it does suck, but new ones are being written :-/.

Rainsong replies on November 21, 2003, 7:24pm:

If someone teaches a class online, the portion of the chat that s/he typed are his/her intellectual property. Likewise, the portions of the chat typed by the participants, if any, are the intellectual property of the participants in question. They are not public record, any more than the articles are. Such writings are protected under copyright law, and the theft of such material is one of the reasons that more articles are not submitted, by some of us.

SKainuiG asks on November 5, 2003, 7:58pm:

Are there any ways to communicate between users besides using the inbox? I mean now you can't even click on the name which is kinda saddening. I liked talking with people, and I can't get the chat to work and so what I'm really wondering is could you make the names when they say something in Q & A that you can click on them to bring up the messenger or something? Sorry if I sound kinda vauge.

Peebrain replies on November 17, 2003, 6:05pm:

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I'll try doing that right now...

SKainuiG asks on November 16, 2003, 2:39am:

Is the site shutting down or something? All the stuff in the Newbies section is whipped out and tons of the articles are gone. I know that those two people took out all their articles, but still, does this mean the site is shutting down, or are they just taking theirs out. I'm worried, because this is a fantastic site. I'd hate to see it go.

Peebrain replies on November 17, 2003, 6:04pm:

Nope, we're not shutting down Smile. Some authors have left, but that is their decision. Other authors are still here, and more and more people are writing articles, so you'll see more new stuff out there soon as well. The Newbie section will have to be rewritten now that KMiller has taken down his Intro to Psionics stuff, but you'll have to wait for that as well. I'm sorry I keep saying "wait wait wait", and it doesn't seem like any work is getting done, but work is getting done. Just slowly. We have lives outside of PsiPog, and we don't have time to write articles all day long Smile. Not to mention the Q&A Smile.

But, no, the site isn't shutting down. I am the owner and I am not shutting it down any time soon.

And yes, more articles are on their way.

psi_boy_2002_12 asks on November 14, 2003, 5:11pm:

Does the chat cost anything, and, will it wreck my computer or send inapropriate pop ups, or send a virus? I've been a member for four months and haven't dounloaded it and I want to know.

Peebrain replies on November 17, 2003, 5:59pm:

The chat is free, and is not a virus/trojan/mallicious program/etc...

...But, whether you download it or not is up to you.

SKainuiG asks on November 16, 2003, 2:43am:

Are people allowed to save articles to their computers, so that in the future if the author decides to get rid of it, they can still have it for personal use?

Peebrain replies on November 17, 2003, 5:58pm:

Yes. As long as you don't reproduce them (i.e., post them on your own website) without permission. I suggest backing them up by going to the "Printable" version of the article (the link is on the bottom of every article), and clicking on File->Save As (in Internet Explorer).

soulshaker asks on November 16, 2003, 1:53pm:

Will we be able to, in some point in the future, reply to answers given to us in the Q&A? I mean only the poster of the question can reply. Pleaaaaaase?

Rainsong replies on November 16, 2003, 9:34pm:

There is a personal-message email-like function on this site. You can reply that way. If you want the person to edit his/her post, you can make the request that way.

SKainuiG asks on November 12, 2003, 7:41pm:

What is the symbol on the first page called, and what does it mean? I'm talking about the one before you even enter the site, it's the fork thing.

Rainsong replies on November 13, 2003, 8:21pm:

That is a Greek letter. It is spelled out as "psi". It is used as a variable, in this case as the "unknown mechanism" which allows such effects as psychokinesis and telepathy to happen. It was used to coin the word "psionics", in parallel form to "electronics", "nucleonics", and so on, in the middle of the twentieth century, in the United States.

By contrast, by the way, "psychic" is indirectly derived from "Psyche", the Greek Goddess who personifies the mind and soul. This is the same root as is used in "Psychology" (study of the mind), "Psychiatry" (which is medical practice relating to the mind), and "Psychokinesis" (movement effected by the mind).
